A Note on using Keyboard Hand Warmers with your devices
Because a heated desk mat warms its entire surface, anything placed directly on top of it will retain that heat. For most setups this isn't a concern — a standard keyboard and mouse sitting on a warm surface is exactly what the pad is designed for.
There are a few situations worth thinking through before you buy, though:
Laptops. A laptop sitting on a heated surface can't dissipate heat from its underside as effectively as it would on a cool desk. Most modern laptops manage thermals fine, but if yours already runs warm or has bottom-facing vents, a heated mat adds an extra variable worth considering.
Battery-powered keyboards. Manufacturers note that sustained heat can affect rechargeable battery performance over time. If your keyboard has a built-in battery, prolonged contact with a heated surface is worth factoring into your decision.
Heavy monitors or peripherals. Any heavy object placed flat on the mat will trap heat beneath it rather than letting it dissipate naturally. This is generally fine for short periods but worth knowing if your setup has equipment sitting directly on the surface all day.
The practical solution for any of these scenarios is a mat with a dedicated zone switch — one that lets you turn off the heat beneath your keyboard or device area independently, while keeping the wrist and palm area warm. Keyboard-Specific Considerations

Mechanical keyboards. Some users report that the heat from the mat surface can cause some mechanical keyboards to flex or bow slightly upward over time, particularly thinner or lighter boards. If you use a mechanical keyboard, a mat with a dedicated zone switch — where you can turn off the heat beneath the keyboard while keeping the wrist area warm — is strongly recommended rather than optional.
Keyboards with kickstands or raised feet. Tilted keyboards concentrate their weight onto two small contact points rather than distributing it evenly across the base. Over time this can create small indentations in the mat surface, which in turn trap heat more intensely in those spots. If your keyboard has adjustable feet and you use them, it's worth considering either a dual-zone mat or leaving the feet down only occasionally rather than permanently.
Wireless interference. Not a concern in practice provided the mat uses a properly insulated heating element. The mat surface doesn't conduct electricity, so there's no interference with wireless keyboards or mice. The only edge case worth mentioning is that headphone users occasionally notice a faint high-pitched tone, though this appears to be rare and dependent on specific headphone sensitivity rather than a consistent issue.
Surface material and typing feel. PVC leather — which the Heatka Classic uses — is firmer than the PU leather found on many cheaper mats. That firmness is actually an advantage for keyboard use: it resists the shallow divots and surface softening that PU leather develops where a keyboard sits repeatedly. PU leather's softer surface can also cause keyboards to feel slightly uneven if the mat has a wire-based heating element beneath it, since the keyboard sinks into the surface unevenly over the element. PVC's harder surface maintains a flat, consistent feel regardless of what's sitting on top of it.
